All of these are just sketches that I intend to color in the future. I just haven’t had much time to do so. :s

Anyway, I think this is a pretty good thing for me to do I guess. It gives me a reason to try to work on my sketch art a little more, since I tend to spend more time and more effort in coloring drawings. I’ve always thought that my blank sketches were kind of hideous. I’m not sure if this is just me or not, but it’s the reason for why I like to throw in lots of color in my drawings.

My boyfriend thinks that my drawings have improved since I started this blog. I am super stoked that he feels that way, because now I know that my blogging hasn’t been a waste of time after all :3. I’ve learned so much within the past 10 months and I intend to learn a lot more along the way. An artist is never to old to learn new things ^^.

I remember that I used to let criticism get to me, and to a certain extent, I still kind of do. I made a post months ago about criticism that isn’t meant to be helpful, but is kind of meant to put a person down, like trashing on a person’s style for example. But as far as constructive criticism goes, I’m actually very open to that nowadays, more so than before :3.

I’ve been working on some art work ever since returning and would like to get back in to the swing of updating the blog again. :3 Vegas was really great. If I didn’t mention it in my previous post, it was my very first time. I went with my group C3 and we shared a hotel at the Las Vegas Hotel.

I took many more photos on the Vegas strip, I’ll try to post some more later, but this was taken on the hotel balcony. It was super high up for real! We were 29 stories up, that’s pretty high for me. I have a huge fear of heights. Hehehehe.

Anyway, I’ve got some new art work underway. Can’t wait to post it tomorrow ^^! By the way, I’m working on Flickr gallery! Check it out ^^.

Since I do draw everyday anyway, I thought I’d plug in my new art tutorial to the blog instead on how to draw a dagger in Photoshop. It’s not really anything special but I’m starting off doing easy art tutorials for now. I’ll probably start taking requests eventually as well since a few people expressed their liking to my tutorials, which is awesome!

Also I forgot to mention something about the tutorials. They are made for Photoshop but they can also be done without Photoshop as well. I wanted to make them paper and pencil compatible as well since I don’t like to limit people. I think sometime in the future, I’ll start to post up more difficult art tutorials. I might even include a star system on the outside of the tutorial to let people know the difficulty of any given tutorials. Just a thought!

Once again, you can find the latest tutorials by visiting the tutorials page. Will be back tomorrow with a new drawing!

I’m surprised the rest of the drawing and digital painting process for this turned out almost the way I wanted it to, since I was distracted big time while doing this xD. I was watching an interesting documentary while I painted this.

The documentary was about an hour and 30 minutes, and I finished this 45 minutes later. I guess it’s safe to say that the entire coloring process for this lasted about 3 hours max. I discovered a different painting technique in Photoshop a few days ago that I applied to this picture. I really like how it came out in this pic! If I would have done things the old way, I wouldn’t have been satisfied with this at all xD! What I did with the skin here was I used the brush tool as I always do, and then I used a mix of some of the other tools such as smudge and blur. What I was previously doing in my paintings was blur and Gaussian blur, which compared to this, makes a pretty ugly effect in the drawing now that I think about it! lol!

I think it’s that time again where I look back at my old work and shudder in horror x.x. This happens to me every few years or so and I think I’m having that moment right now xD! Good thing it happened early on in the year and not later 😡 heheheh!

At the moment, I’m trying to paint my drawings like I would on a canvas, so maybe that’s why my drawings have improved some since I first started this blog ^^ Yay! The way I see it is that an artist is never too old or too seasoned to learn something new. I’m very open to improving my art skills along the way right now. I want to eventually master Photoshop in the future xD I know I have a long way to go but it’s something that needs to be done since I love the program so much. xD

In other news, I have updated the prints section today with new products! Also this week, I will try to put up another store front with even more items (shirts, buttons, cards you name it ^^.) This week is proving to be very busy so hopefully I’ll find the time to do that.

Also, I am still adding more tutorials to the resources page as well. As I said a few posts back, I am compiling a list of self hosted tutorials. :3

Last night while I was making this drawing, I had to have gone through over a dozen different references before I came up with this. I was originally going to draw in the entire bow and arrow in this drawing but I got tired xD heheh!

This took a little over 2 hours to draw in photoshop and paint digitally. I haven’t drawn a male character in a while so I thought I’d make one today. A somewhat muscly male at that! I’ve always had a fascination with bows and arrows and the likes! Of course, you won’t catch me at an archery range in a million years! I’m afraid all the potential stray arrows, just no way xD I’m a wuss when it comes to that sort of thing!

So last night, I got this other idea about what I want to ultimately do with the blog in the near future. I’m thinking of just hosting my drawing tutorials here. Not only will there be no limitations on my end, but just so they will be more easily accessible and so people won’t have to leave the website just to see them. I don’t know about anyone else but I think that’s a better plan than what I’ve currently been following previously xD.

Anyway, I’ll be updating I 365 Art within the course of a few days so don’t be startled if you notice a ton of changes in your next visit :p.

I got about 90% of my homework done for this week early this morning! Woohoo! That gives me more time to work on some more new art for the blog xD. I’m actually really glad I did considering how much time I spent on this drawing alone ^^; Hehehe. I implemented a different coloring style with this art drawing that I might work with some more :3.

This drawing was based on a quick sketch that I made while in the hospital last week. I never got to finish the sketch there so when I took it back home, I worked on it some more during the weekend. In this Illustration, it is simply of a cat girl (cat girls ftw!) standing in the high jungles. I drew in a bunch of jungle ropes to make it look kinds of crazy xD!

This took about 5 hours total to make. If I had more time to make my digital drawings, I could actually make something that looked pretty realistic xD. But I have school and work, since I love drawing so much, I try to find that time for it even when I know full well I don’t have the time :s. As artists, even if we’re doing a million and one things with our time always find time for what we love, which is art!

Just thought I’d throw in some more things as well. I just wanted to plug in some fantastic art blogs of those who follow I 365 Art. I put these in the Stuff I like category on this blog but in case you overlooked it, I’ll post them here! Jam of Jam’s Art Blog. She posts really awesome sketches of anime characters on her blog. Go ahead and mosey over there when you have the time.

Abby of Abby Normal! She is an artist with a really nice slice-of-life blog with a weekly art drawing every Friday. Please do send her some love by checking out her blog :3.

And last but not least, TJ Bruno of A Look In A Creative Mind. She has a beautiful, beautiful blog with various paintings made by her. She also has an Etsy shop as well that is filled with merchandise with her lovely art on it. Please support her blog and her work!

Also, I am constantly updating the resources of I 365 Art! Be sure to keep checking back ^^. Toodles!

I feel even more motivated to continue to post every day now :]!

I also just wanted to talk about sketch books today xD! Hehehe. Speaking of which, I was hospitalized yesterday due to a sinus infection. While I was on the hospital bed waiting to be assisted, I busted out my sketch book and doodled away.

As you may already know, I don’t like to waste time xD. Even while I was in the hospital, I still tried to get some work done. While I was there, I managed to come up with tomorrow’s drawing and I was actually pretty surprised at what I came up with. I normally don’t draw very well while I’m in public, as it’s kind of hard to really focus on something with hundreds of people around you, or at least it is for me :s.

Also, I finally finished coloring this! The only problem I have with it is I wish I colored her hair differently. I was a little short on time while making this so sorry if it looks a little rushed xD. This almost didn’t go up today due to time constraints :S.

As you see, I think from now on, I’m gonna start posting my blog titles differently instead of just giving them labels of a drawing. I’ll start putting the name of the drawing as a caption underneath instead.

Today, I want to talk about a more serious topic. In today’s post, I wanted to bring light to a situation that came to mind recently. To be specific, it’s about criticism. I don’t mean the kind of criticism that you get from some random troller who just wants to bring you down. I’m talking about criticism from other artists. Sure, sometimes advice from another artist is good. It’s good to learn new things. I’m fine with that :D!

While I was growing up, I was always told that every artist was their own biggest critic. As I grew up however, I’ve been learning quickly that this isn’t always the case. You could be completely proud of something that you drew and another artist can come along and find a million faults with in a matter of only a few seconds! Do you think this is really necessary for someone to do?

Now I’m alright with constructive criticism that is directed at how the artist could have done something differently, this is totally fine. What I don’t like is when another artist flat out tells you that you need to change your style completely and to just use a different method of drawing altogether. What gives anyone the right to demand this?

I think that a request like this is totally inappropriate and uncalled for. I believe that everyone’s art style is unique and special in some way, and that no one has the right to demand that someone change their own style to specifically suit their needs. That’s what makes art so great! What kind of a world would we be living in if everyone’s art looked the same?

That’s just my take on the issue. Art is an expression of one’s thoughts and emotions. If you are able to draw something based on thought alone, then that is amazing in and of itself.

The post Day #29 Artists and criticism appeared first on I 365 Art.
