Ratchet is a female character I designed a few years ago for my old web comic The Faction. I no longer work on the comic anymore but I was thinking of doing a reboot on it after I finish DeadFingers in the near future. I decided I not only wanted to rewrite the comic but I also wanted to redesign all of the characters in it as well!

Naturally, I’m not really content with my old art work and I even shutter when I look at my old stuff from that comic xD. I think the comic had a lot of potential in my eyes and I’d like to do it justice by remaking the entire thing. I’ve been constantly evolving as an artist since I stopped working on The Faction and i’d like to make it continue I guess xD.

On a side note, today was kind of interesting. There was a slim possibility that I was going to go to a Vocaloid party with my boyfriend today but that didn’t really work out, so I’m most likely going to take it easy this Saturday.

For anyone who doesn’t know what Vocaloid is, it’s basically an anime based around a digital Japanese Pop star named Hatsune Miku. She’s not a real person but she’s very popular among the Otaku community. She’s even has concert tours!

Anyway, that’s basically been my day so far. I hope everyone’s day is going good as well :3.

So today, I have completed the drawing from yesterday’s post. I’m pretty pleased with how this drawing turned out considering my recent time restraints. I think that the mirror turned out a lot better than I expected. Also if you notice, I drew the reflection of her hand in the mirror this time. In yesterday’s post, I forgot that little part out :s. It’s never too late to make changes I guess. Well, unless you’ve already finished the picture xD. Coloring this entire illustration in Photoshop took no longer than 2 hours. I started it at around 1:00 pm and finished it at 2:57.

I don’t think I mentioned this on the blog yet buy I am slowly compiling an image portfolio for work purposes. I’ll be using many of my images on this blog to show in my portfolio. I draw so much that I might as well try doing it professionally if I can :3. I noticed that I have been getting a lot more commissions lately because of my daily drawings which is excellent! Thanks to everyone who has ever visited this blog! I never knew how many people appreciate art before :3!

So yea. Last night, I celebrated my sister’s birthday. She turned 30 years old and she doesn’t look a day over 15! So we basically celebrated by going out to lunch, heading off to get ice cream and other treats and we bought some $2 DVDs from the Block Buster that was closing up by our house. I guess despite the fact that she is now 30 and I am on my way to 30 in a few years, we just can’t lose the eternal child that’s inside of us. After all, you are as old as you feel!

Anyway, I finished coloring the drawing from yesterday. The hair was the biggest challenge here, but damn it was a lot of fun! I felt the need to give the girl some crazy, bright red hair. Believe it or not, it was going to be brown in the beginning. I tried out some new color shading techniques on the hair and I think they came out alright! Off in the distance in this illustration are some futuristic skyscrapers.

This entire painting took about 3 hours. I took a couple of breaks in between or else I might have been done sooner. Me and my A.D.D. xD!

So serious question for you guys: what kind of music do you listen to while draw? And if you don’t draw, what kind of music do you listen to while participating in other constructive activities that you do? I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but I listen to a lot of music while I draw. I can’t quite pin point a specific genre, as my musical library ranges from punk rock to RnB.
