How to make an elegant Elegant orb


I don’t know why you would want to make an orb. Maybe you’re a fantasy artist and want to incorporate orbs in a dreamscape type of drawing? Well, this tutorial will teach you how to make an elegant looking orb for use in a fantasy style drawing. In this tutorial, you will also learn how to change the color of your completed orb in Photoshop. Let’s begin!

Firstly, you will want to make a circle shape using the Elliptical Marquee tool in your side toolbox of photoshop. To find this tool, click on the default square shape on the upper left corner of the toolbox and select the "circle" shape to use.

Use the curve option to make the outline of the orb a little darker.

Start a new layer and set it to normal. Add a little white to the orb in this layer. Try not to overdo it or its gonna look like a fuzzy mess in the next step.

Like in the last layer, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur and create a blur effect with the white to smoothen it out. You can stop here if you'd like but if you want to keep going, read along!

Optionally, you can add some little dots surrounding the orb on a brand new layer.

Add some detail to your dots if you'd like and do another Gaussian blur.

Throw in some more detail using the techniques learned above and you're finished! There you have it, a simple fantasy orb.

If you want to change the color of your orb, go to Image>Adjustment>hue/saturation to mess with the colors a bit.
